News > Current News Netball Fiji coach welcomes overseas-based players interested in playing for Fiji Losalini Dulakiverata 15 February 2012 Experienced players recalled by coach by Rashneel Kumar Fiji Times Online - 29 January 2012 'NETBALL Fiji coach Unaisi Rokoura has named a 24-member squad to prepare for the Pacific Netball Series in June. With the core of the team from the Fastnet Series late last year retained, players like Taraima Rara-Mitchell, Cecelia Sorby, Matila Waqanidrola, Seruwaia Vonolagi and Lani Tuisasa will be the key players Rokoura will have to rely on. Rokoura said she was impressed with the fitness of the players and the interest shown by the former reps in reclaiming their spot in the national team. "Our main aim is to maintain the core of the squad (from last year) and prepare from where we left off," the former national skipper said. "On Monday (this week) we had a team training and we were supposed to have another session in the weekend but cancelled it due to the weather." Rokoura said the team would regroup tomorrow at the tfl National Stadium and work on the basics before hitting the court midway next month. She said the door was still open to overseas-based players and other local players who are interested in playing for the team. But Rokoura added the selection of the team to the Pacific Netball Series to be hosted by Fiji would be based on the performance of the players. "The overseas-based players are most welcome to contact us if they are interested in playing for Fiji," she said. "No one is guaranteed a place in the team and the selection will depend on the individual performance of the players. "We are happy to see the commitment of players especially those making a comeback to regain their spot."
