A new Pacific Youth Development Strategy to improve the wellbeing of young Pacific peoples has been launched by the Prime Minister, Helen Clark.
The Pacific Youth Development Strategy has been developed using a talanoa process involving Pacific youth, Pacific community leaders and government agencies. It aims to deliver positive life-change and affirmation for all Pacific youth in Auckland.

| Fijian All Black given permanent residence in New Zealand |

Fijian-born All Black Sitiveni Sivivatu has been approved for permanent residence in New Zealand.
Twenty-three-year-old Mr Sivivatu has been living in New Zealand since 2002 on a work permit, after originally coming here on a scholarship at Wesley College in Auckland. He plays for the Chiefs Super 12 team and the Waikato NPC team, and is in the All Blacks squad for the upcoming tri-nations series, having made his All Blacks debut last month.

| Fiji Netball Association Visit New Zealand |

Two members of the Fiji Netball Association are currently in New Zealand by invitation of Netball New Zealand
President of the Fiji Netball Association, Adi Makelesi Lutuciri, and Fiji Netball Association Administrator, Ilisapeci Namuaira Jiuta arrived in Auckland on Saturday 3rd July 2004, and are here for a week.
Part of the visit includes attending the 3rd netball test between the Silver Ferns and Australia in Hamilton on Monday 5th July.

| Ratu Mara Passes Away |

Fiji's founding prime minister Ratu Sir Kamisese Mara died on Sunday night.
The 83-year-old was Fiji's PM for 22 years after it gained independence from Britain on the 10th October 1970.
He was president until the coup in 2000.
During the coup Ratu Mara was removed from power by the military under martial law and sent home to Lau.
He is said to have died in a private Suva hospital, having been treated for a stroke in New Zealand three years ago.

Harold Patrick Kubuabola, son of Rt Manasa Kubuabola and Bernadette, was taken tragically in a road accident on New Years Day.
He will be sadly missed by us all in the Auckland Fiji Community. Our deep condolences, thoughts and prayers are with you Ratu Manasa and family.
